A perfect evening...
... after a long hot day.
With the air conditioning still off there was no way I was
going to cook dinner and we decided to head down to the local
Inn for dinner.
The air had cooled a bit and the humidity had all but
disappeared by 6:30 when we started out down A1A. It's an
easy walk - a little less than a mile, and we took our time -
unlike our morning walks which are for exercise and therefore
brisk and businesslike.
The restaurant wasn't crowded, and we were able to get a table
by the main window, which looks out over the ocean.
We had a delicious meal - grilled salmon, sauteed
vegetables and a salad and we lingered happily over
our coffee, watching the world (what little of it we could
see) go by.
The beach was quiet - one or two couples walking
hand in hand; a mother playing in the surf with her daughter;
and a very happy, and very wet chocolate Lab running along
side his master.
We walked home along the beach. The tide was out, the sand
flat and hard and the surf quite calm - only a few waves
lapped up far enough to 'get us' as we strolled. The sun
was setting, but it was still light enough to see one or two
fishing boats off shore and watch the pelicans looking
for dinner. There were also sandpipers scuttling busily to and fro
and gulls circling lazily overhead.
We arrived home to find our air back on - a relief beyond
words as when we'd left the apartment the temperature had
been 88 degrees - inside.
It doesn't get much better, does it?
